Hi,
Thanks for you interest in learning just what Capture Gwinnett is all about.
About the Site
Capture Gwinnett is a site that provides more value to those living in Gwinnett County, Ga by adding locations, showcasing reviews and delivering news and events. It also lets non-residents quickly learn more about the county through info and photos.
How it Started
The idea for this site started when two very different things happened that got my mind churning for a solution.
Thing 1: A stadium was coming
I happen to live very close to where the new Gwinnett Braves stadium, now Coolray Field is. As I would traverse from point A to point B I got to watch the progression of the stadium being built. Since the field is such a big deal for Gwinnett I assumed that there were others who like to see the progress of the stadium, but didn’t normally pass it. So, I thought that it would be cool if there was a website that focused on Gwinnett and highlighted big things like this so that others could follow the progress.
Thing 2: A cafe was closing
I prefer to get my coffee from a less franchised sources (read: not starbucks) and so there was one such establishment that I would frequent when I was in the area. The place served good coffee and specialty drinks. The environment was nice a cozy the way a coffeshop should be and had some really nice canvas pictures on display. Unfortunately, the cafe went out of business and I was sad because there just aren’t that many local independent coffee houses in Gwinnett. I thought just maybe if there were some website that focused on Gwinnett that highlighted places like this, then maybe more small business could get the recognition to survive.
After those things happened I really began thinking about and discussing the value of having a very local website like this whose goal was to enrich a community better. I let the idea slowly grow over the next few months and starting laying down most of high level things that I would like to see in such a site.
Eventually the idea grew to a point where I was tired of thinking what it could be and decided to build it.
About Me
I, Jeremy Davis, am a web designer and front-end developer who has been living in Gwinnett County for most of my life. I work for GCPS doing application design and development, but also do freelance web design projects on the side. I have been married to my lovely wife, Rebecca, for 3 years now.
My personality fits a typical design geek profile. I love all things sci-fi and fantasy. I can often be recognized because I am the only person wearing a Star Wars t-shirt. I consider myself to still be a gamer, although most of my free time this past year has been spent building this site. Few things irritate me more than seeing Comic Sans and Papyrus being used for public display. I want to become a fantasy digital artist when I grow up or at least when it become financially feasible to spend all my time learning to draw.
I enjoy atypical exercise routines such as trail running in Vibrams or using Kettlebells for my weight lifting. Not because I’m a particularly gifted athlete, but because I prefer to do workouts that I enjoy.
Enough about me, let me know about you.
