Gwinnett County has an extensive education system featuring one of the largest and most acclaimed public school system, a robust private educational establishments, a four-year and technical colleges and a supporting library system.
Primary Education
Gwinnett County Public Schools
Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is the largest school system in Georgia. Over 160,000 students are enrolled in GCPS, making it the 15th largest school system in the US. There are 132 schools in the district, divided among 18 clusters. A small number of those schools are special interest schools.
Buford City Schools
Buford City Schools is a self-contained school system within Buford, unaffiliated with GCPS. The system includes Buford Elementary, Buford Academy, Buford Middle School, and Buford High School.
Private Schools
Gwinnett has several private schools, ranging from elementary-only schools to full K-12 campuses. The largest of these is Greater Atlanta Christian School, located in Norcross. Gwinnett offers both religious and non-religious options for private education.
Colleges
Gwinnett Technical College, founded in 1984, is one of the few technical colleges accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Gwinnett Tech offers more than 45 associate degrees, as well as adult and continuing education opportunities. The college is located in Lawrenceville.
Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC), also located in Lawrenceville, is the only four-year college in Gwinnett. GGC was established in 2005 and received its accredited from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 2009. The college, which has a current enrollment of about 6,000 undergraduates, features a School of Business, School of Education, School of Liberal Arts, and School of Science and Technology.
University of Georgia Gwinnett Campus is a satellite campus of UGA located in Lawrenceville. The graduate school offers a number of degrees, making it easy to earn an advanced degree from UGA without traveling to Athens. UGA Gwinnett also offers non-credit continuing education opportunities, business-oriented training programs, and K-12 technology training initiatives.
Libraries
The Gwinnett County Public Library consists of 15 branches throughout Gwinnett. In 2000, it won the Library of the Year achievement from Library Journal magazine.
